You know that poor posture is bad for your health, but it’s also bad for your overall quality of life. A slumped stance is like shouting, “I don’t like who I am.” Look at a man or woman who’s standing or sitting there with their shoulders slumped forward, back rounded, neck craned, probably a bit of a puss on their face. Do they look happy, healthy, in charge of their life? Nope. This crap ass posture is perpetuated by sitting slumped over at a desk or counter all day for sure. On a physiological level, it’s a result of weakness in the upper back. Dig a little deeper and you may find a general lack of self-confidence. On a physical level, the good news is, it’s not hard to correct. Try this right now: Stand up, elongate your neck and lift the crown of your head high. With your arms at your sides, tighten your abs, pulling the belly button in and up, slightly lift your chest and pull your shoulders back. Smile. Feel the difference that just made? Hell yes you did! Practice this three times a day. Tomorrow I’ll give you a few exercises you can do at home or at the gym to strengthen that upper back.
